Cherokee-M Construction - Electronics

July 28, 2003:

For access to the electronics on the pad, I cut a 3"x3" hole in the side of the electronics bay and discarded the cutout. Next I installed the electronics bay in the airframe and drilled and tapped 4-20 screw holes, one just outside each corner of the buried cutaway in the interior electronics bay. Finally I removed the four screws and the electronics bay, and carefully cut a larger 4"x4" hole in the exterior airframe, just around the outside of the four screw holes, this time saving the cutout section of airframe to serve as the hatch cover.

The net result of all this was an access hatch to the electronics bay, with a 1/2" lip, and a section of airframe that screws over the access hatch to serve as a hatch cover.
