Cherokee-M Construction - Electronics
July 26, 2003:
For electronics I have a BlackSky AltAcc 2C and a PerfectFlite. I mounted them on a
6x6 piece of plain old aircraft ply from a local hobby shop. The AltAcc is designed
to be mounted behind a bulkhead, so it ended up on the back side of the mounting board,
with the PerfectFlite on the front side. Brass tubing was epoxied to the back of the
board as mounting rails. The electronic bay has all-thread running through it to
secure the forward and aft bulkheads, and when the electronic bay is mounted the
brass tubing slides over the all-thread.
The battery for the AltAcc mounts directly to the AltAcc, the battery for the PerfectFlite gets secured beside it using zip-ties. The terminal strips for the main and drogue
charges are mounted around the PerfectFlite battery. Between the battery and the
PerfectFlite are screw-switches for shunting the two main and two drogue charges.
Finally, between the altimeters are the power switches for the two altimeters
and the RS-232 port for the AltAcc - the RS-232 port for the PerfectFlite is accessible
from the front of the PerfectFlite, so there wasn't a need for an additional connector,
but the power and RS-232 connectors for the AltAcc were behind the board so I used the
AltAcc's 'Remote power panel' connector to mount a power switch and RS-232 connector
where they would be accessible from the front through the electronics bay hatch.
Switches and connectors were labeled in ballpoint pen, and all wiring was done with
scrap e-match wire.
